Rinaku Broomstick's Equipment Shop

Whoever moves on earth can - in most cases - when nature rages and unleashes its forces - seek shelter at a suitable place and wait for the weather to improve. Once in the air, however the broomrider who meets bad weather conditions cannot get away from them easily. The broomrider cannot slow down airspeed below a minimum but must accept the bad conditions, using the maximum technical possibilities of broom, equipment, and spellset, of the his own knowledge and skill. Sometimes the broomrider is forced to turn back or shift air lanes, if no suitable alternate landing place is at hand.

Better skilled broomriders may use their magic energy to change the weather conditions or their place immediately, but allas, how small is the number of highly skilled people!

This helplessness in the face of the weather must be your motivator to buy the right broom and equipment. For nothing less than your life and well being in the air are at stake. The equipment shop of Rinaku Broomstick's Broomriding school may be small, but it certainly makes up for it. Have a look at the products and order - you won't be disappointed!

Broom and Besom Models

Mistral 5000 (Mistral SA)

A new broom sweeps clean and flies straight, as an old proverb says. But the Mistral family does much, much more: In the early 1980s, Mistral Plus was a typical broom for quick moves and it conquered the world in less than an month. Since then, every year has brought another, better and faster Mistral.

The Mistral 5000 easily maintains an average speed of 60 mph. It's excellent in detecting at repelling clouds and its self-restauring spells are quicker than ever before. Quick changes of weight can be managed by a separate and individually customized weight managing tool spellset.

Since the Mistral Mark X (1997), all private Mistral broom models exist in 3 variants, each of which is sold with leaflet containing a set of useful spells:

  • The Robust Cross-Country Model is the best broom for beginners and casually flyers. The handle does not break anymore, even in frontal collisions. Neither do the twigs catch fire when stuck in a high tension power utility.
  • The Handy Collapsible City Model is of considerable less weight and there is room for the collapsed form in every attaché case. The invisibility spellset as well as the vermillious charm are much stronger than on the cross country model.
  • The fashionnable portable Shrinking-Enlarging-Model is the fanciest of the three. It's shrunken form is available in many fancy shapes. With some of the broches you can't even make out the original broom shape. Due to its subobpimal aerodynamic shape, the shrinking-enlarging-model's speed is slightly lower.

Characteristic to the new Mistral 5000 series is the fact that the broomsticks are grown in one piece, in a special tree nursery. The best wood, Estonian foresters discovered, is a cross between poplar and aspen, cultivated for four years and processed immediately after flowering. The shoots are cut off in the first and second winter and tied up in the third and forth year. They remain on the handle as the twigs when the broom is harvested.

The broom-growing school says the brooms are enchanted from their first months of living and growing, and the spells are therefore stronger and more durable than on traditionally processed brooms. Also, says the broom growing school, are brooms whose handle and twigs are from the same wood, more stable than composed brooms.

The Mistral 5000 was produced in fall 2001 - a prototype model for broomriding teachers and broom testers - and it's been on the market since February. It marks a new and more durable generation of enchanted and usefully recycled brooms. Once damaged, the Mistral 5000, stuck into humid soil for a fortnight, will regrow of its own.

Super Boreas SSA 12 (Boreas Company)

Remember the old Boreas? The fabulous broom of the early 1960s which could be turned into an umbrella in dangerous situations? Remember Miranda Mapello spectaculously falling from her broom, catching the handle in mid air, turning the Boreas into a pink umbrella, braking her fall and landing safely on Regent Park's lawn?

These happy old days are back! For more than four years, rumours whispered about a new and more comfortable Boreas coming back. You can turn the new model, the Super Boreas SSA 12 it into an umbrella to carry it on ground, and in the air, nobody has to rely on a self made spell to brake his fall. A parachuting spell shaped a pink umbrella is activated automatically when the broom loses more than 50% of its weight while being more than 4ft above ground.

The new model Super Boreas SSA 12 has an ultra light bamboo cane handle and bamboo shoot twigs, which both hold the spellset extremely well and make the Boreas light, robust, curse-resistant and easy to steer.

Flap-n-Up

The Flap-n-Up is a popular collector's item from the 70s, designed by the Swedish De Sade scholar Arund Ateran. Not too sturdy, but swift and nimble as the mountain winds, especially during start and landing, the broom is famous for its ability to gain altitude and speed quickly and for its extremly noiseless flight.

The Flap-n-Up was the first broom with an invisibility spell which automatically extended to the broomrider. It was also the first broom model with a shrinking / enlarging option, made by the mysterious minskrympa charm.

Today, the Flap-n-Up is technically not the best model on the market, but due to its characteristic shape and collector's value, it still sells well. Dozens of aditional spells and tools on the market extend the Flap-n-Up rider's flying comfort. Flap-n-Upers rarely fly on their plain bought broom, but on their individually extended and replenished models. Flying a Flap-n-Up is an expression of a lifestyle: to be self-confident enough to fly your own ways and to value broomart more highly than broomcraft.

The Stork

The Stork is an extra slim broom, stable and extraordinarily tenacious. It flies best in heavy spring and autumn winds and is able to bear up to 500 lbs, which means it can carry three or more riders or extra luggage. It is often used for commercial purposes such as taxi or parcel service.

The Stork is the broom best suited for experiments with tied brooms. Indeed, only three tied storks are able to transport up to ten persons, luggage inclusive - the air bus as people call it smirkily.

Qasar 2002

The Qasar 2002 is an international standard broom and due to the extremely effective iddhab-family spells excellent at repelling flying objects like dust, sand, midges, mosquitos, grasshoppers or camels. Very heat-resistent and a great shelter against sudden cold, the Qasar 2002 is perfect for long distances, especially as it contains a water storage unit as well as an auto pilot oriented towards the stars.

The material is a soft, streamlined, sand-blasted handle from Lebanon Mountain cedar wood, completed by cypress twigs tied together with magical threads of flying carpets. The handle is very often skilfully painted with floral motives.

The Qasar 2002 is said to be the best broom ever. Its excellent stability in turbulent air underlies its reputation as an ideal broom for family riding. It has the option of multiple seat padding, a security child carrier with pairs of thigh binds as well as a huge shrinkable trunk for toys and stuff of every kind.

A witch once left her seven children playing in the trunk before shrinking it and binding it to the Qasar. The children composed and rehearsed their own play while flying the long way from Rakka to Aleppo and didn't even notice that they had changed size during the trip. Is there any need to say more about the Qasar's trunk space?

El Condensador (Escobarraio)

El Condensador marks a revolution in broomcraft. Combining electotechnics with magic was always considered impossible and nobody on earth knows how the Felippi brothers managed to surpass this impossibility and constructed a broom with a built in capacitor.

El Condensador takes its basic energy from the tension field between two metal cylinders and an electrolyte, all of them worked into and along the broomhandle. Of course, this is a micro motor and therefore is the broom model forbidden in iBa countries and in Switzerland.

El Condensador's aerodynamic shape is not perfect, as there is no need for perfection. The handle looks like a simple tube and its front end serves as a plug while charging up the capacitor.

Visit a restaurant of the Felippi Brother's chain, plug your broom at the bar and recharge it while sitting on it, having a cold drink and a good chat with other broomriders.

Multimagic Wasp (BroomTronics)

The Multimagic Wasp is made in accord the most recent scientific discoveries. A fish-shaped broomstick with an ionic accelerator in the handle. The carbohydride accumulator consumes 30-50 wood cells per flying hour. The handle therefore tends to dissolve, though never in remarkable dimensions. After 2'000 flying hours, you might notice nothing more than hole the size of a pinprick.

The accumulator not only speeds up the broom but also increases the effects of the spellset. This feature was the undoing of the Multimagic Wasp in iBa countries, as iBa's legal department decided that the accumulator must be considered a micromotor, which is forbidden. The department's decision however was very narrow. Some lands, like Scandinavia, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Sri Lanka, looked very favorably on this invention and thought about leaving iBa and either joining AIDBV or establishing a new Organisation of Independant Wizarding Countries. Negotiations with Switzerland and Jordan are already in progress.

The AIDBV Countries don't have a micromotor prohibition, and there the broom sells extraordinally well, especially in Spain and Brazil.

The Multimagic Wasp is minimally designed and its spellset, including a permanent magic footstool, is shaped to optimal aerodynamic demand. It's the first broom with containers for talismans or Smart Components.

Like the Flap-n-Up, the Multimagic Wasp is the expression af a lifestile. Riding a Multimagic Wasp means riding a trendily shaped broom, often in glaring colours, it means flying with a built-in mp3-player, being in contact with your home computer, steering with a cockpit... in short: being young, free and modern.

The Besom (Besom4U)

Do we really have to sit on our uncomfortable broom handles forever? Besom4U says no! This spring, a phoenix rose from the ashes of traditional broom developers. A group of young Flap-n-Upers presented a set of three handle-free broom models at the international congresses.

The Besom is not simply a besom, but an extra large bundle of hand-picked and manually cut beech twigs. The magical saddle is soft and warm as a cushion and large enough to sit comfortably during hours in which your feet stand on a ergodynamically placed footstool. The knees are wind-sheltered by the front twigset. A set of keeping-close spells form a luggage rack just behind the saddle.

The Ball (Besom4U)

The Ball is a ball-shaped, extra condensed besom, extraordinally well suited for a quick ride with the feeling of free flying. "Listen Mom", said the boy on the pic beside during the photo-shooting, "it's just COOL to ride a Ball!" And such it is. Try it, fly it, love it!

Resembling a gigantic dungball, but smelling like a flowering lime tree, because its lime twigs are one by one hand-picked immediately after blossom, powerful and elastic, the Ball is the most moderately priced flying broom on the market. It flies at an average speed of 45 mph, keeps easily height, speed and direction and offers a good base for the new generation of shell oriented spellsets.

Broom Equipment: Garments

Broom Gear

Broom Gear has specialized in developing a material with a slightly overpressured surface, in order to repell the microtic sized water drops in and around clouds without disturbing the wearer. This slight overpressure also helps to literally pull out the sweat particles and thus keep even the fast and sporting broomrider dry and warm.

Broom Gear's coats and hats turn automatically invisible at a speed of 10 mph.

The only thing you need except a broom Gear's coat and hat are the fancy extra long, extra waterproof striped socks, extra warm due to a blend of lamb wool and progressive microfibres inside - the company's typical Broom Gear material.

Tandem Broom Cape

To the delight of many tandem broomriding couples who sent us mails to the subject, Rinaku Broomstick's Equipment Shop offers a house-manufactured, roomy broom cape for two persons.

It is a union, being carried over the normal coat. The cape protects against rain, wind and visibility. Separate invisi coats aren't necessary - invisi trousers will serve the need. Seven well-placed bags of different size allow to carry a backpack (baby-rack can be added), maps, compasses and various other useful equipment.

On the front, in ideal visible position for the steering partner, a rudimentary cockpit woven into the cape, slightly glowing in damp, mist and night, helps the broomriding couple finding the way.

Invisi Ointment (Karen's Mobile Potions)

Once very common, Invisi Ointments have become hard to find since the appearance of cheap and stylish invisibility garments including hoods and gloves at reasonable prices. But it's still possible to experience their effect.

Invisi Ointment hides the parts of the body uncovered by garments and guarantees a safe flight in the warm summer winds. It doubles up the effects of invisibility garments and helps to cover a broken garment or spell.

Rub the ointment into the skin like tanning cream. Its effect lasts from 2 to 8 hours. Don't use it, if you are allergic to chameleon skin.

Invisi potion exists in three scents with different effects:

  • Nightshade / Wolfsbane strengthens the effect of flying and opens your mind to the magic of being there but not being seen.
  • Lemon / Mint increases your perception of liberty, free breathing and fresh air.
  • Bamboo Cane / Incense supports the recuperating forces of your body and nips every common disease such as high blood pressure, cardiac infarctions, brain stroke, tumors of all kinds, etc in the bud. You not only fly safe and unseen, but flying grants you a life unseen by the forces of your own ageing nature.

Keep the Invisi Ointment as fresh as possible. Store it in a dark cold place and take a dose with you on your ride. Some people think its effect tends to pass quickly, as they tend to forget time while broomriding.

It's best to use the broom cover together with an invisibility coat and Invisi Ointment.

Collision-Alert Talisman (Loki&Partners)

What's the broomrider's biggest fear? Falling down, of course! But as all of us are usually flying invisibly, how can we avoid colliding in mid air?

Easy! Wear a Collision-Alert Talisman and be sure you are at least warned in time. It's small enough to be worn around your neck, but powerful enough to be your real life insurance.

The Collision-Alert Talisman has three settings:

  • It activates an acoustic signal when an invisible object approaches the wearer. When the rider is flying with an autopilot it is turned off, and the broomrider (even if deep asleep) is softly shaken awake in seconds by a collision-alert-dream.
  • It activates an optical signal when the approaching invisible object or subject is at close distance (5-10ft).
  • The wooden parts of the approaching invisible object's flying instrument are flashed up at closest distance (2-5 ft). If your approaching object is a Hoover, the metal parts are flashed up.

Revisibility Talisman (Loki&Partners)

How nasty! One of your broomriding team mates fell off his broom and landed on the ground, but you have no way to spot him under his invisibility cloak, to see if he's bleeding, because of the Invisi Ointment! Or you can't locate the remains of his broom hidden in its invisibility cover forever! Maybe the invisible broom will even grow to an invisible tree in a few years, and the tree into an invisible and growing forest. How do we stop this process at the very beginning?

By taking off invisibility of course! Loki&Partner's talisman works at a distance of 5-15 ft and makes invisible objects visible to everyone with magical skills for a moment.

Please note:

  • If your invisible broom mate is hurt but the injury within your healing abilities, let his Invisi Ointment wear off before you start healing.
  • If your invisible broom mate is seriously hurt and needs immediate medical aid beyond your healing abilities or rights, bring him or her as he or she is to an independent doctor (even to one not familiar with the wizarding world) explain the basics of invisibiltiy without going too much into the details of the accident nor of broomriding itself, and stay at the injured's side as long as possible - to prevent him turning back invisible.

Small-Object-Repelling Amulet (Loki&Partners)

The amulet repells small objects like sand grains, tree leaves, golf balls, as well as small animals like insects, bats and little birds from the person who wears it. In tropical region, this talisman has the very positive side effect that you can never be bitten by malaria carrying mosquito. People allergic to bee stings can finally sigh in relief and think about becoming beekeepers, because no bee nor wasp will ever be able to touch them.

Caution: do not wear the amulett while eating (you might shoot pies at your mum), doing office work (your rubber might start jumping around), playing chess, putting together a puzzle etc. Also, when you think of putting on the amulet, be sure that you tidied up and vaporized your room. You'll avoid a thunderstorm. Not to be worn in early pregnancy.

The amulet slows down your falling or landing speed in inverse proportion to your ground distance. Just pull off the amulet, let yourself fall the last milimeters, and be a grounder again.

The Soft-Landing Amulet replaces the parachuting spells which can be unreliable at times. Never forget to take it on your ride, but put it on only in emergency or before landing, otherwise you'll have problems to surpass a cloud's surface!

Mp3-player Inlay in Broom Handle: (BroomTronics)

BroomTronics offer two basic models:

Model 1: are you a beginner? Is it easier for you to concentrate and focus on flying, if you fly in a trance or with continuous music? Then, this model is exactly what you need. Placed between your padding spell and the faggot, you'll never be disturbed by its apperance, but the preselected music will play forever.

Model 2: are you attending a wikkan ride, are you broom dancing, partner dancing, flying synchronized? Then, all too often you may overhear the group music because of the wind's noise. You need an amplifier. This model is placed at your padding spell's front, where you are easily able to set the local volume. The Broomrider's Office Mindset
(BroomTronics)

It's while riding in the fresh air that you have the best ideas, according to many broomriding manager. But how to catch and record those ideas? The Broomrider's Office Mindset is the answer! Micromagic chips in the handle of your broom contain modules for an e-mail program, fax, agenda, internet browser or digital camera - the choice of any or all of them is up to you.

But this is only the beginning! Broomrider's Office Mindset functionalities allow call recording, dictating to written words, and graphical thought recording (both filed directly on your home computer) and a display, either at a fixed distance in mid air, 1 ft before your eyes, or as a projection on your Cockpit Helmet.

While the Broom Area Network (BAN) links the Smart Components - the small mobile electronics around your broom - to a network, the Broomrider's Office Mindset's Personal Area Network function (BOM PAN) links your BAN Peer-to-Peer with the LAN of your home computer.

With a data transfer rate of 2 GHz per second, the Broomrider's Office Mindset works with computer applications installed on your home computer. Peripheral devices of your home computer's LAN can be controlled with the Broomrider's Office Mindset as well. High data transfer rates are possible, because magical information transfer creates no frictional loss.

The micro chips can be replaced one by one, e.g. when better items are developed.

Telepathic Talisman Set (Loki&Partners)

Broomriders remain in contact!

The Telepathic Talisman Set helps people to concentrate on each other's movements. Thus, it makes an incredibly useful item for beginners to broomdancing, for formation gliding groups and of course for broomriding teams on long journeys. The Telepathic Talisman Set contains a display to show the partner's position, and it provides an auto remote control to coordinate both partner's movements. If a partner moves outside the predefined distance, the Telepathic Talisman will hoot. Thus, loosing one of your teammate is impossible.

But this is only the external part of it. The movement control is flanked by the far more powerful thought tranference control: a transmission knot transfers and amplifies the thoughts of the people connected to the Telepathic Talisman Set. Parts of the amplified voices can be recorded for later use, but the main benefit of the Telepathic Talisman Set is its telephone-like convenience with the difference that no receiver is needed and people outside the Telepathic Talisman Set can't hear anything, even if they are at voice distance. When not in use, the Telepathic Talisman can be taken off and thus cut off the set, which continues working as long as at least two people wear their talisman.

Reconnecting to the set is possible at any moment. You simply have to wear your talisman again.

The Telepathic Talisman operates with object magic only. The price depends on range desired as well as on the number of people in the chain. If you ever plan to buy a chain for your family, take into account a reasonable number of guests, because the chain can never be extended once set up, but only broken one by one if individuals take off or loose the Telepathic Talisman.

Mini Babelator (Wingfield Engineering)

The Mini Babelator is a small, raven-shaped microphone like object the wearer sticks at his or her ear and forgets about it. Whenever words in a forign language are addressed to you, this "babelling raven" will translate them simultaneously into your programmed mother tounge. It will also answer in your mother toungue questions you asked him in any language of this world. A useful tool for awkward situations in case you've been flying too far. A useful tool, too, at international broomsport competitions, when you have no idea what the commentator keeps talking about. And a very useful tool at broomrider's meetings.

New on the market is the frog-shaped (and coloured) tiny babelating talisman for your ear, which translates simultaneously into your mother tounge whatever you hear. Though very new on the market, first rumours tell of people who bewitched their babelating talisman to translate from animal languages.

  • Please do not use it unless the indicator light is green.
  • For humans only. Not to be used by animals, magical creatures, objects alone or variations of the human form (centaurs, merpeople, manticore etc.).

If you use the Teleporter at a competition and you have to win at any rate, just teleport yourself to the first competitor until the final seconds of the event and then use all your remaining force to outstrip him. This method, of course, is strictly forbidden.

The person you teleport to doesn't have to be in sight distance and you don't have to know him or her. Neither does there have to be a path between your location to the other's (e.g. the person may be across a body of water, accross a valley or sea).
